Price and page design tell you almost nothing. What separates a credible UK peptide supplier from an anonymous reseller is a short list of verifiable signals — documents and public records you can check yourself before any money changes hands.

The problem with buying research peptides in the UK
Research peptides sit in an unusual commercial category. They are supplied as laboratory reagents for research use only, which means no licensing body reviews them before sale: the MHRA does not authorise them as medicines, no inspector audits a storefront’s purity claims, and there is no register of approved vendors. A figure such as ≥99% by RP-HPLC on a product page is, on its own, just a claim.
That does not make the market lawless — general consumer and trading law still applies — but it does mean the quality-assurance work a regulator would normally do falls to the buyer. There is no official ranking of the best UK peptide supplier to defer to; there is only the evidence a supplier publishes and the evidence it withholds.
Batch-specific COAs, published before purchase
The single strongest signal a supplier can send is a certificate of analysis (COA) for the exact batch you would receive, published openly before you order. A COA is the analytical record of a batch: the assay technique, the measured purity, the identity data and the batch number that ties the document to a physical vial.
Three qualifications carry all the weight:
- Batch-specific. A “representative” certificate reused across every batch proves only that some batch once tested well.
- Published before purchase. A supplier willing to show its analytical records before taking payment has nothing to stage-manage; one that produces a certificate only on request controls what you see.
- Traceable to the vial. The batch number on the certificate must match the batch number printed on the vial that arrives — closing that loop is what makes the document evidence rather than decoration.

Identity evidence, not just purity
A purity figure answers a narrower question than it appears to. RP-HPLC reports how much of the material in a vial elutes as one dominant peak — a measure of homogeneity, relative to whatever the sample actually is. It cannot, by itself, confirm that the dominant peak is the peptide named on the label: a wrong or truncated sequence can still produce a clean chromatogram.
Identity needs an orthogonal technique. Mass spectrometry measures the molecular mass of the material and checks it against the theoretical mass of the named sequence — about 1419.5 g/mol in the case of the pentadecapeptide BPC-157. A credible certificate shows both: a chromatogram with an integrated purity figure — a visible trace can be judged in a way a bare percentage cannot — and an MS result confirming the observed mass. A verifiable legal entity
A reagent supplier asks you to trust its analytical claims and hold your payment. The minimum reciprocal disclosure is its legal identity. In the UK this is simple to check: every limited company appears on the Companies House register, free to search, showing the registered name, company number, incorporation date and filing history.
A UK supplier should state its registered company name and number somewhere findable — typically the site footer or the terms of supply. Where stock physically sits changes what arrives. A supplier holding genuine UK stock can dispatch on a stated schedule, with the sealed material under known storage conditions until it leaves.
