Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing 0.9% w/v benzyl alcohol, supplied in a sealed glass vial with an elastomer stopper and crimp cap. The benzyl alcohol inhibits the growth of microorganisms in a solution that is stored after preparation, which is what distinguishes it from plain sterile water.
